Bring sensing capabilities to market faster with TE Connectivity’s new pre-engineered sensor module

TE Connectivity unveils its AmbiMate MS4 sensor module. This platform of products consists of a building automation-focused set of sensors brought together on a single printed circuit board assembly with an I2C (Inter-Integrated Circuit) digital output.

Trends toward “big data,” the Internet of Things (IoT), and energy and air quality management are driving the need to integrate multiple commonly used sensors into a single, pre-engineered, compact and affordable module that OEMs can easily integrate into their designs. TE’s AmbiMate MS4 sensor module addresses customers’ needs to stay in line with these trends and enables them to go to market faster.

“Our customers can now bring products with environmental sensing capability to market faster by incorporating TE’s pre-engineered and assembled sensor modules. With the AmbiMate MS4 sensor module, we provide a ready-made package allowing designers to focus resources on what they do best and still have a solid sensor package easily integrated in their design” says Scott Hamilton, TE product manager.

Central to each MS4 sensor module are the implementation of the four core sensors — the most commonly used sensors for detecting motion, temperature, humidity and light. Optional AmbiMate MS4 sensor module additions in the future will add the ability to detect sound and gases (CO₂ and CO) to the four core sensors.

TE’s AmbiMate sensor modules are easily attached to the host board via a number of attachment options enabling devices to poll environmental data from the sensor module and make decisions based on the input. For example, a ceiling grid of lights installed in a room with an AmbiMate MS4 sensor module designed into each fixture’s controller can form an array of sensors in a room or building that measure temperature, humidity, light level and occupancy throughout the space. This allows a building controller to adjust a building’s HVAC equipment and lighting control system, enhancing the comfort of a workspace or adjusting the light level based on time of day, occupancy or external ambient light contribution.
