Getting animated about rework

Interactive material and video demonstrations are at the heart of OK International’s new website, www.metcal.com, launched to support the Metcal MX-5000 soldering, desoldering and rework system. Features include an animated homepage banner showcasing the benefits of the new MX-5000 series as well as a video of the system in action and a brochure download. Other highlights include a video guide to OK Internationals SmartHeat technology, complete system configurations and soldering cartridge information.

In other news from the company, the Metcal MX-500S recently helped one young engineer to win a gold medal position at the World Skills Competition.

Held in Japan, the biennial competition demonstrates excellence in the field of vocational training. Nissan Motor Company used the opportunity to showcase the talents of Akira Shimizu, who was taught to solder to an exceptionally high standard within the company. Akira used Metcals MX-500S to top the industrial electronics category.

OK International VP global sales and marketing, Tom Seratti, explained: Nissan estimates that over 30,000 solder joints are required in one car alone, so soldering skill and quality are essential to automotive manufacture. The MX-500S, equipped with STTC Power Tips is ideal for this challenge, as Akira proved, delivering high throughput at low temperatures. A skilled operator like Akira is a bonus, but Metcal systems also combine usability and ergonomics to reduce training requirements without compromising performance.
