Smith, a global distributor of electronic components and semiconductors, today announces that its European distribution center in Amsterdam has finalized the second phase of its expansion. Phase two included installation of a facility-wide HVAC system with automated temperature and humidity controls, increased physical security measures, developments to the company’s functional and counterfeit detection labs, dedicated office and breakroom spaces, and additional quality certifications.
In June 2018, Smith relocated its European distribution center to offer room for expansion. Now, a year later, the facilities’ functional and counterfeit detection labs have doubled in size to better serve customer requirements. The facility now has an HVAC system that provides heating and cooling and has sensors throughout the warehouse that monitor its temperature and humidity levels. Increased security measures have also been added to the warehouse. Before the expansion, the distribution center was already certified to ISO 9001 and ANSI/ESD S20.20 and has now added CCAP-101 and ISO/IEC 17025 to its portfolio of industry leading certifications.

Relocating its European distribution center to a facility with 30,000 square feet (approximately 2,787 square meters) of operational space has allowed Smith to expand its vendor-managed inventory (VMI) capabilities. Smith offers multiple models of inventory ownership, allowing customers’ product to be efficiently consolidated, shipped, and replenished. Smith’s distribution center in Amsterdam will serve as a central pull location for customers’ inventory in the region.
