Murata extends lineup of 1206 and 1210 size MLCCs above 100uF

MUR347-GRMMurata has announced three lineup additions to its GRM series of 1206 and 1210 size monolithic ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) above 100 uF. As the functionality of electronic devices become more advanced and the available enclosure space becomes even more constrained, there is a growing need for capacitors that are both miniature and have a high capacity. Traditionally, polymer capacitors have been used above 100 uF since such high capacitance values have not been available. MLCCs deliver much better ESR characteristics than polymer capacitors and are more compact, so now that higher values are available MLCCs can aid to overall space reduction.

The GRM series 1206 size additions include 150 uF and 220 uF capacitors. Both these have a rated voltage of 6.3 V. The slightly larger 1210 size adds a 330 uF MLCC to the series with a rated voltage of 4 V. All three new devices have a M (+/20%) deviation rating and X5R temperature characteristics such that the capacitance change is no more than +/- 15% within a temperature range of -55 to +85 degrees C.

Typical applications include decoupling on low voltage rails for programmable logic and processors such as used in servers, network and data communications infrastructure.
