Arrow Receives Its First Responsible Recycling Certification in Europe

Arrow Value Recovery NL Culemborg_LRESArrow Electronics, Inc., announced that it has received certification to the Responsible Recycling standard for its value recovery business based in the Netherlands. The R2 certification represents the first of its kind for Arrow’s operations across Europe and adds to Arrow’s R2 certifications in the United States and Brazil. The certificate relates to the procurement, refurbishment and resale of electronic equipment.

Arrow’s value recovery business in the Netherlands is part of an industry-leading global network of processing centres that provide secure and environmentally responsible asset recovery, data sanitization, testing and screening, remarketing, service parts management, and product returns management services for a wide range of electronic equipment.

“Arrow continually strives to employ the highest ethical and socially responsible practices in all regions of the world in which we operate,” said Joep van Loon, vice president and general manager EMEA for Arrow’s Value Recovery business. “In doing so, we incorporate standards and best practices into our reuse strategy that seeks to recover value and recycle only when necessary. Certification to R2 is significant part of our global compliance strategy.”

R2 is administered by SERI, a non-profit organization with a global mission to promote safe and sustainable electronics reuse and recycling worldwide. The standard requires strict accountability for environmental health and safety practices as well as tracking of material. R2 places particular importance on the preservation of natural resources by extending the useful life of equipment, parts and components.

Arrow will attempt to obtain R2 certification to some of its other European facilities before the end of 2014. Its facilities across the United States are currently certified to the R2 standard, plus Brazil as the first R2 facility in South America.
