The new Amphenol PCD Harsh Environment USB 3.0 Connection System, available from Mouser Electronics, are high performance USB 3.0connectors. They have the same form & fit as standard USB 2.0 connectors but perform at ten times USB 2.0 speeds, transmitting data at up to 5 Gbits/second.
USB 3.0 is the third version of the Universal Serial Bus (USB) specification. It is an improvement over USB 2.0’s 60 MByte/sec (480 Mbits/sec) by offering a new SuperSpeed mode, allowing speeds as fast as 625 MBytes/sec (5 Gbits/sec). All USB devices have an upstream connection to the host and all hosts have a downstream connection to the device. While all USB 2.0 plugs fit into USB 3.0 receptacles, USB 2.0 plugs do not contain the extra wires needed to convey SuperSpeed communications.
This Harsh Environment USB 3.0 Connection System is sealed against fluids and dusts and conform to IP68 ratings. The sturdy construction offers shock, vibration and traction resistance and features improved EMI resistance and protection.
The metallic USB 3.0 plug is connected into a receptacle and uses a Tri Start Thread coupling mechanism which conforms to MIL-DTL-38999 series III specification. An anti-decoupling device insulates the connector from high vibrations.
