Newbury Electronics marks the start of a 2-phase building redevelopment programme with a visit from its local MP, Richard Benyon

Karen Allen,RB & PK new boardsNewbury Electronics recently welcomed local West Berkshire MP, Richard Benyon, to its premises to learn more about the company’s redevelopment of its Newbury site.  Work on the initial phase started earlier in June as part of a two phase development which will ultimately provide increased production space, new offices and deliver savings in both water and electricity consumption.

Philip King, managing director, explained more about the company’s plans;  “This first phase of development has four key objectives namely;

  • to replace the on-site temporary sheds, containers, and structures with a purpose built single storey storage building
  • to reduce water consumption by at least 50%
  • to reduce total factory electricity usage by 20%
  • to provide extra space to enable us to maintain production during the course of the second phase build.

If all goes to plan both phases should be completed by the end of 2015 and we will start to see the benefits of the investments we are making.”

Having reviewed the plans and toured the company’s current facilities, Richard Benyon, said; “It is great to have the chance to visit a local manufacturing company and one that has, in the words of its own director, ‘never been busier’.  This is an exciting time for the company as it expands its facilities and continues to invest, both of which will enable them to offer more local employment opportunities.”  He continued; “I really enjoy visits to companies like Newbury Electronics, which allows me to see first-hand how the Government’s long-term economic plan has supported firms in the Newbury constituency.”

Referred to as the plant room, this new space which has a total floor area 100 m², will house energy efficient air compressors, a de-ionised water plant along with a reverse osmosis water recycling plant, a water softening pre-treatment plant and a water effluent carbon filtration plant.  There will also be a dedicated bunded chemical stores along with storage for maintenance spares and workshop space, garaging for the fork-lift truck and all panels and equipment associated with the company’s heating, ventilation, fume & dust  extraction processes.

Newbury Electronics has worked closely with its Ark Architects on the design of both this and the second phase of the development to ensure maximum use of the space available at the company’s Faraday Road site.  The second phase of the building programme is a much larger two storey extension which is planned for construction in 2015/16 and will provide new offices and an expanded production area.  The building work is being carried out by specialist construction company, IBMC Ltd.
